Background
I am Adil Poshad Khan, originally from Pakistan, with a strong academic and professional background in structural engineering. I completed a funded master’s degree in Structural Engineering at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungary, focusing on Finite Element Analysis of Beam column connections using Atenna 3D. My expertise includes Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), Earthquake Engineering, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and Structural Dynamics. I have collaborated with various institutions, including the China-Pakistan Joint Research Center, the University of Bologna, and Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI). Additionally, I participated in an exchange program at Gadsden State Community College in Alabama, USA. With five publications in reputable journals, I have also contributed to organizing the 1st International Conference in Civil Engineering at GIKI and led the ISO 9001-2015 certification efforts for the department.
Motivation
I am eager to embark on my Ph.D. journey within the BRIDGITISE Doctoral Network, focusing on “An advanced digital platform to integrate SHM data into bridge management” (DC7 PLATFORM). My motivation stems from a desire to enhance the integration of SHM data into bridge management systems through innovative digital platforms. This includes ensuring real-time data collection and analysis, enhancing predictive maintenance capabilities, and improving decision-making processes. The platform should enable engineers and managers to identify potential structural failures before they become critical, ensuring safety and prolonging the lifespan of bridges. This Ph.D. project will allow me to deepen my technical expertise and contribute to solving real-world engineering challenges. By bridging the gap between academia and industry, I aim to develop viable solutions that enhance the durability, efficiency, and sustainability of civil infrastructure in real time. My long-term goal is to advance the field of structural engineering by pushing the boundaries of SHM through emerging technologies, contributing to safer and more resilient infrastructure systems worldwide.
